I am a robotics researcher with a holistic view on robot development and a strong focus on embodiment agents, i.e. robots with well-integrated hardware and software to physically explore the environment and learn from these interactions. My vision is to develop robots that can help overcome our currently biggest challenges derived from overpopulation, aging societies, environment contamination and income inequality. To achieve this goal, understanding the overall role and implications of robots in our society is paramount, and an integral and multidisciplinary view of science and humanities is necessary. I believe robots should work with us, be safe and help us lead happier, healthier and more fulfilling lives. My previous works include a wide variety of projects like autonomous marine vehicles, rescue robots, safe collaborative robot arms with kinaesthetic teaching, and extended tactile sensors for robots. My research interests include (but are not limited to) robot skin and tactile interactions; embodiment, autonomous and intelligent agents; human-robot interaction; safety in robotics; cognitive systems; developmental robotics; collaborative and service robots.
